Men in Childcare – Breaking down Barriers Part 2

Part 2 of the Men in Childcare Q&A is here, have a watch and if you missed Part 1 click here.

With male colleagues making up just 2% of Early Years colleagues in England, #yourcoop Little Pioneers mirror these workforce stats. This is why we have set up the Men in Childcare project.

Part 2 is here and aiming to break down barriers; watch The Men in Childcare Q&A interview with our Group CEO, Phil Ponsonby, Daniel Berry and Nuwan Dalugodage from Co-op Childcare.

What is the ‘Men in Childcare’ project all about?

The project consists of a dedicated passionate group of male colleagues, who want to promote Early Years as a rewarding career, and who want to provide more diverse role models for Early Years children before they start school.

Early years education and childcare are one of the most important jobs in the world, and it’s pivotal that the workforce reflects the communities our children, which we care for life within.

The early year's workforce should include men, women, and people whose identities challenge the gender binary; people from a wide and representative range of ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds; people with different sexual identities; able-bodied people and people with disabilities.

The Men in Childcare project aims to break down those barriers, which prevent men from entering careers in children’s early education and encourages more male applicants to apply for the most rewarding roles, truly making a difference to our next young co-operators.
