Career Framework

Learning and Development

At Your Co-op, we take learning and development seriously, ensuring our colleagues have access to the training and resources they need to develop their skills and knowledge to perform at their best wherever they work within the Society, and at every level.

By joining The Midcounties Co-operative, you’ll learn all about what it means to be part of our Society and we have a career framework that shows a clear roadmap of professional development opportunities within and across our business groups so you can see a clear pathway of progression and how to get there.

Many of our colleagues have taken the unique opportunity to move across our different business groups as they have progressed within their career and further developed their knowledge, skills and experience.

Apprenticeships

We want to help our learners grow their skills, reach their potential and feel inspired so you can combine workplace training and study so you can add real value with one of our structured training programmes, otherwise known as apprenticeships.

You’ll be given first class training and support whilst working towards a recognised qualification and it gets better, as you will earn the full rate of pay for the job you are training towards.

You can apply your knowledge by being innovative, working collaboratively across the business, and being responsive to the business’ needs. We want our learners to feel welcome so there’s always a buddy or manager on hand to support them.

With over 80% of our learners rating their programme as “good” and our qualification pass rate being 22% higher than the national average, you can be assured of a quality learning experience.

Why not take the LEAP?

Our structured training programme, which we call LEAP (Learning, Earning, Achieving, Progressing) offers a range of apprenticeships from intermediate (level 2) and advanced (level 3) to degree (levels 5-7) across all our businesses.

We have learners across all our trading groups from Early Years Educators in Childcare, managers in our food stores, property maintenance, technical sales and finance assistants in our support functions teams.

Our LEAP programmes are open to anyone over the age of 16 whether you are looking to start your career or looking to develop within your existing role with us.

LEAP programmes kick off with an induction where you will learn more about the Society and your structured training programme. We encourage self-led development and support this with a range of e-learning and face to face learning sessions.

Making sure our learners feel supported at all times is important to us so you will have your manager, a personal tutor and a buddy assigned to you that you can turn to for help and support as you need it.

We offer further support for our learners that maybe useful depending on where you are in life, such as CV writing and interview skills, mental health and wellbeing, debt and managing your finances.
