Your Coop are looking for a Direct Sourcing Manager to join our society. As a Buying Manager, you will be:  

Accountable f
or maximising the commercial performance of “Locally & Direct Sourced” products across the Convenience, Supermarket and Food Market businesses as well as bespoke “Large store” ranges for the Supermarket/Churchstoke Stores in line with the strategic priorities as defined in the 5 Year Plan.
Maximise the commercial returns of these categories by renegotiating existing terms and ensuring all new contracts are reflective of our current standing and forecast sales growth.
Be accountable for the overall “Locally Sourced” category within c.225 Food Retail stores as well as the sourcing and supply of “Large Store” ranges within the 26 Supermarket stores.
Develop and execute a rolling 5 Year Plan that is aligned with Society 5 Year Plan.
Deliver the Sales performance growth for Locally Sourced Products as per the 5 Year Strategy.
Accountable for full purchasing supply chain lifecycle for all categories across Ambient, Chilled, Fresh & Frozen.
Work with Suppliers to move majority of direct sourced ranges onto Sales Based Ordering, which will provide consistent range and improved customer availability across stores and suppliers.   
Establish clear merchandising principles for both Locally Sourced and Large Store ranges to ensure consistent execution against a centrally defined product range suitable for all store segments. 
Accountable for driving promotional income through effective BIP’s (Buying Investment Plans) through supplier negotiation & Investments.
Accountable for the supplier base to ensure all levels of service expectations are being met including NPD, promotional activity, quality, waste, delivery and contact performance.
Lead the team to undertake on-going assessment of the competitive positioning of the ‘Local category’, understand market developments and customer insight analysis, validate pricing decisions, and best present the category experience through all channels.
Influential member of the Food Retail team to deliver availability, sales and waste KPIs by sub department by store segment. On agreement, be accountable for the accurate measurement and efficient reporting on agreed targets, whilst recommending both operational, range and system changes to maximise performance.    
Ensure strong working relationship with the Retail Operations teams to maximise delivery of proposition for customers and members. 
Build strong contacts within the food & agriculture sectors to leverage those relationships to deliver a truly unique experience in our stores & online. 
Work closely with all members of the Supply Chain team to support the development of store specific ranges and promotions that compliment FRTS ranges and always deliver against customer needs by store segmentation. 
Review resource requirement to ensure ranging efficiencies are maximised. Define and manage the delivery of coaching and training plans to ensure all members of the Ranging team have the necessary skills to maximise impact on product ranges.
Take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work. 

About You:

Previous operational or commercial retail experience, preferably in convenience food retailing
Sound commercial acumen and market awareness
Highly numerate with strong attention to detail
Intermediate Excel skills, able to manipulate and report on high volumes of data using lookup and pivot table functionality
Effective decision making skills and the ability to quickly identify/ diagnose problems and recommend solutions
Structured approach with good planning, organisational and prioritisation skills which are utilised effectively in order to meet deadlines
Ability to work under pressure
Excellent communication skills with experience of dealing with internal and external customers
Drive to constantly learn, develop and improve
